Upper Darby Mural Arts Program

'A Message to the Child...The Hero Can be Found' Artist: John Lewis

Mural Arts Program Goals

In mirroring the successes of the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, we’re starting a very small scale model to coordinate with local property owners and young community artists to give tangible space back to the community. Many aspects of community culture can be preserved in vibrant murals in the communities they inhabit.

Murals also create a tangible sense of place, destination, resulting in increased foot traffic while adding color, vibrancy, and character to urban environment. Murals contrast the negative mental health effects of concrete and asphalt, and can have therapeutic benefits for the community.

Our goal is to complete our first murals by mid-2024. In the Winter and Spring planning, submissions, and applications will be taken. In the summer, the actual murals will be selected, funds used for supplies, and painting will begin.

The importance of giving art space to flourish in a community is paramount to combating many environmental conditions that come with systemic inequalities.

Pictures from our recent mural arts fundraiser where we partnered with a roller-skating rink raising around a thousand dollars for the Upper Darby M.A.P. (Mural Arts Program).

Any additional supplies and funds will be used to help collaborate with the Upper Darby Township in painting the small electrical utility boxes.

Donations:

The benefit of the creation of our first mural will have a significant impact on the future viability of the program. As a result if you are interested we welcome any donations either directly through our Cash App bank account or through supplies such paints, paintbrushes, masks, gloves, tarps, low-lint paint rollers, etc.

Regarding the donations of any supplies, please send us a quick email to udtjorganization@gmail.com to make sure that we can use the items and that there won’t be any duplication.
