Liber-tea Party - America 250
We, as many others, have struggled with whether to celebrate this year. With so much of American Ideals having been decimated we decided to create our own space. We still hold these truths to be self-evident and worth fighting for... that all people are created equally and are endowed with the inalienable rights to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
For the 250 anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, marginalized communities unite to celebrate each other.
From our queer leaders such as Baron Friedrich von Steuben to the sacrifices of Crispus Attucks.
We remember figures like Crispus Attucks, Phillis Wheatley, Prince Hall, James Armistead Lafayette, Salem Poor, Peter Salem, Colonel Tye, Elizabeth Freeman, and the countless enslaved people whose names were never recorded but who fought wherever freedom was promised.
Our history is the foundation of this nation and we will celebrate them.
——————
We also gather for those still fighting for liberation today. From our Black and Brown communities, LGBTQIA+ people, trans and gender-expansive people, immigrants under attack by ICE, people with disabilities, women, workers, youth, rural farm workers, Appalachian miners, and everyone still demanding safety, dignity, and justice. History may seem boring at first, but remembering the people have been fighting this struggle for centuries is the empowerment we need to succeed! Freedom remains unfinished, and we're never giving up.
