Future Muralist Program Details:

The Future Muralist Program is committed to empowering BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and underserved youth by providing them with opportunities to create public murals that celebrate cultural diversity and lived experiences. Participation in this program requires compliance with the terms and conditions outlined below.

Project Summary:
The UDTJ Mural Arts Program seeks to empower young and future artists to become the next generation of community artisits!

Eligibility Requirements

Age:

  • Applicants must be between 16 and 24 years old as of the program's start date.

  • Participants under 18 must submit a signed parental/guardian consent form.

  • Participants over 18 must provide required background checks.

Residency:

  • Applicants must be residents of Delaware County, PA.

  • Priority will be given to individuals residing in the Upper Darby School District, Southeast Delco School District, and Chester-Upland School Districts.

Artistic Background:

  • Applicants should have a foundational understanding of art, including basic skills in color theory, drawing, and composition.

  • While the program is focused on skill-building, it is best suited for individuals with some prior artistic experience.

Availability:

  • Participants must commit to attending all scheduled classes, workshops, and mural installations.

  • A maximum of two excused absences will be permitted with prior notification.

  • All classes will take place after 6 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday at least once a month.

Commitment to the Mission:

  • Applicants must demonstrate a passion for public art and a willingness to contribute to community engagement projects.

Application Process

  • Submission:

    • Complete the application form, including a short personal statement (250–500 words) explaining why you want to join the program and how you hope to benefit from it.

    • Include three examples of your artwork, which can be submitted as photos, scans, or digital files.

Program Terms

  • Collaboration:

    • Participants must be willing to work collaboratively with peers, mentors, and community members.

    • Respect for diverse perspectives and open-mindedness is essential.

  • Intellectual Property:

    • Any artwork created during the program may be used by UDTJ Community Center for promotional, educational, or archival purposes.

    • Participants retain credit for their contributions but must grant permission for reproduction and public display of the works.

  • Health and Safety:

    • Participants must adhere to safety guidelines provided during workshops and mural installations.

    • Proper use of tools, equipment, and materials is required at all times.

  • Parental Involvement (if under 18):

    • Parents/guardians are encouraged to support their child's participation and may be invited to attend specific program events or showcases.
