Rally Against the New Juvenile Detention Center

  • UDTJ Upper Darby United States (map)

Delaware County has made progress lately with the deprivatization of George W. Hill and the closure of Lima’s Juvenile Detention Facility in March 2021. However, this progress is significantly under attack!

The Juvenile Detention Board of Managers are currently planning to not only rebuild the detention facility but expand its capacity 4x over. Following the 204-page Grand Jury report the community stands united and outraged. We are demanding all county officials and the Juvenile Detention Board of Managers to take immediate action to reduce the beds, and find restorative justice alternatives to the lazy and racist strategy of mass incarceration of youth of color. The community will not be silent and will begin mobilization efforts.

Join us in Media at the courthouse on Tuesday, December 20th, 2022 for a rally and protest following the next Juvenile Detention Board of Managers meeting. Gathering begins at 5:45 P.M. and the program will begin at 6:00 P.M. Stand against this thinly veiled act of racism against Delco youth.
